So, one of the biggest questions people have about melatonin is probably: does melatonin actually work? Have their been any clinical studies to show that buying melatonin will actually result in a person getting more or better quality sleep? Well, yes.
Melatonin does work and it is effective, even on reducing snoring. In fact, in trials melatonin decreased sleep onset latency in people with a primary sleep disorder. Sleep Onset Latency was decreased greatly in people with delayed sleep phase syndrome.
The magnitude of this effect appears to be clinically significant. Additionally, Sleep Onset Latency was decreased marginally in patients with insomnia.
Melatonin and Weight Loss
About 12 years ago I was pretty lean. In fact, I was medically underweight. But I felt fit, great, healthy and had absolutely no issues at all regarding my weight and general all round health. This is because I had a physically demanding job and working outdoors all day, keeping active for 8 hours just to perform my work meant weight gain was never something I ever thought I’d have to worry about. Then my job changed. I went from having an active, but low paying, job to sitting behind a desk. Those 8 hours I used to spend on the go, I now spent sitting on my behind and the weight just piled on. Further to that, the new desk job was a lot more stressful and I got far less sleep.I believe this caused a vicious cycle.
1) I was less active and more stressed
2) When I went to bed I had so much on my mind and had done hardly anything to burn calories.
After a while of just feeling more tired every morning, I needed to take action.
I did start to exercise and I did start to take melatonin to help me sleep.
The difference was immediate.
The fact that I was finally able to get up in a morning after a good night’s sleep gave me more energy to do some exercise first thing and I ended up losing more than a stone following this relatively minor lifestyle change.
Did melatonin directly make weight come off? No.
Did melatonin massively help me lose weight? Absolutely!!
Alternatives to Melatonin
Melatonin is famed as an effective, natural sleep aid. I’ve actually used it myself for quite a few years. I always used to get really worried that my reliance on melatonin to help me get to sleep would eventually lead to the effects becoming less and less powerful. And, sadly, I was right. Thing is though, melatonin isn’t the only natural sleeping aid in town…in fact, it’s not even the MOST EFFECTIVE SLEEP AID on the block! It’s still the ultimate in non-side effect, natural sleeping aid, but it works well in combination with other natural elements.
Dr Backhaus Natural Sleep Aid is made with Melatonin and other natural ingredients.
As we now, Melatonin works with our own bodies and helps to support and promote natural, relaxing sleep.
Dr Backhaus is a product that I tried when I simply couldn’t get any melatonin – and also because I was able to get it with a free trial (yes, that helped lol!)
It’s combined with natural herbs to encourage relaxation.
Melatonin for Sleep
I have used various sleep aids on off for the past decade. Melatonin for sleep is easily and comfortably the best. I’ll explain why. I purchased melatonin after I’d tried sleeping pills my doctor gave me. The sleeping pills made me sleep but I felt like hell in the mornings. To the point where I wished I hadn’t even been asleep at all. I was wiped out.
I would wake up with copper taste in my mouth, I’d feel even more tired and all in all, the sleeping tablets made me feel unconscious rather ‘asleep’.
So a friend of mine (who is in a band believe it or not , travels the world a lot) recommended I buy melatonin in the uk for my sleep problems.
So I was worried in the first place about what I was actually getting.
Eventually I got my order of melatonin tablets and tried a pill.
Did I sleep?
LIKE A BABY!!
Not only did I get genuine, peaceful, restful sleep I did not have a single one of the sleep side effects that the other sleeping pills had given me.
I have since used melatonin whenever I’ve felt the need and I have to say, it’s a real life saver.
There is nothing worse than tossing and turning without being able to get to sleep. With the melatonin in my bedside cabinet, I sometimes take alons side the melatonin some hemp oil from the UK. These two products I would swallow with a swig of water and just wait for the sleep to come. It ALWAYS does!
